Subclipse or Subversive for Eclipse? Help me Choose.

So now that I'm using Eclipse along with CFEclipse and Aptana, I'd like to integrate a Subversion plugin. The two choices that seem to stand out are Subclipse and Subversive.

The last time I tried to install Subclipse, it hosed my Eclipse install to the point I had to start from scratch. But considering that so many use it, it has to work.

So I'd like feedback about both plugins. Let me know what you think.

Mark Phippard's Gravatar I am one of the project owners for Subclipse. I think it is a good choice. The reality is just pick one. They both do the job. Subclipse is developed closely with the Subversion development team. There is a lot of cross activity with the developers. I think the support you can get on the Subclipse mailing lists is incomprable to anything else. We have some really great features coming this year. We have worked more than ever with the Subversion developers and the SVN 1.5 release contains a number of changes that will make Subclipse better. Of course, the Subversive team will benefit from these changes to, but we are the ones driving them.

In the end just pick one and don't worry about it. Some people love Subclipse, some love Subversive, no one is really wrong here.

Rey Bango's Gravatar Thx Mark. I went with SubClipse because it has a good reputation. My initial reservations revolved around the fact that the last time I installed it, my Eclipse installed became corrupted. This time around, everything worked quite well. Thanks for the feedback.

Joe Danziger's Gravatar Hmm.. I like the idea of the interactive merge in Subversive, but like Mark said, at the end of the day it probably won't matter much which you use. I personally have used Subclipse for a long time now and like it very much :)

Mark Phippard's Gravatar Last I knew, Subversive had given up on interactive merge. They still label it experimental, and it is only enabled with their very outdated JavaSVN client. If you use JavaHL or SVNKit the option is turned off.

It really never even came close to working right. There will be some news around this area in the fall when SVN 1.5 is out and the corresponding Subclipse comes out.

Jim Priest's Gravatar I looked at Subversive awhile ago - and even tried it for a time - but after reading some comments regarding how they were presenting themselves and Subversive (some from the Subclipse/SVN developers) - I switched back to Subclipse. I have never had an issue with Subclipse either :)

Rey Bango's Gravatar I felt Subclipse would be the best choice. Too many people pointed me in that direction so I went with it. So far so good.
