Aptana v1.0 Released. Major release of top IDE

The very popular Aptana IDE has finally broken out of the milestone phase and reached version 1.0.

We are very proud to have released Aptana Studio 1.0 (formerly Aptana IDE). After over two years of non-stop development and close to a million downloads, we have finally reached "1.0". Along with the release of 1.0, we have also created two editions of the product: Community and Professional. The Community Edition is the keystone of the Studio product, where all core features and capabilities are developed. The Professional Edition brings additional features and services beyond the free Community edition.

The newly renamed Aptana Studio 1.0 Community Edition will continue to be feature-rich but in looking at the product comparison page, a robust Internet Explorer JavaScript debugger alone would be reason enough to consider purchasing a copy of the Professional edition.

Internet Explorer® Debugging

The Internet Explorer Debugging extension enables full breakpoint debugging for your Web applications directly from within Aptana Studio. Like the already integrated Firefox debugging capabilities of Studio, you can now watch variables, set conditional breakpoints, and seamlessly step through your code in Internet Explorer 6 or 7 on Windows XP or Windows Vista.

Aptana Studio 1.0 continues to provide strong support for the most popular JavaScript libraries including:

as well as plugin enhancements for Rails, PHP, Adobe AIR and iPhone development. Additional features included in the release are:

  • CSS Preview
  • HTML, CSS, and JavaScript Formatting
  • Code drag and drop
  • Visual ScriptDoc Explorer
  • Enhanced Dynamic Help System
  • Tons of User Interface Polish

For more information on the the Aptana Studio v1.0, be sure to visit the Aptana product page for full details on both editions.

Congratulations to the Aptana team for a great release!

NOTE: If you plan on upgrading, be sure to follow the instructions detailed by Aptana on this page.

Charlie Arehart's Gravatar Hey Rey, thanks for the heads up and the useful link to doing the Uninstall.

Speaking of that, it turns out we have to disable Aptana Air plug-in in order to disable/uninstall the Aptana plugin. They don't mention on that page, or on the http://www.aptana.com/air/ page, whether the pluin is compatible with the 1.0 Aptana. Anyone know for sure?

If it wasn't, then those using it might want to wait before uninstalling their current Aptana build to get the 1.0 release. I could just try it but I don't use either tool much so won't know if it's really "working". I'm also not connected to that community, to ask there. So this is just a heads up. If I'm missing something obvious, feel free to point it out.

Charlie Arehart's Gravatar I can share what seems to be good news. After I installed the 1.0 release, the Aptana Start Page offered within Eclipse still listed the same version of the Air plugin (0.2.8.200709301547) that I had already had installed previously. I simple re-enabled it and assume all it good to go. (Again, I've not really used it yet, so wouldn't be able to tell if it' works or not. Just sharing this for others who may wonder the same thing about the update.)

Ingo Muschenetz's Gravatar Hi All,

The current beta versions of the AIR, iPhone, and Rails plugins are all compatible with Aptana Studio 1.0. We'll be pushing new versions of all of them shortly, so you should see upgrades available for them soon.

Thanks,
Ingo

Raymond Camden's Gravatar Hey Rey - I know you aren't tech support for Aptana - but maye you have seen this before. I've disabled autocomplete for HTML, yet autocomplete still fires.

Rey Bango's Gravatar @Charlie: Looks like someone from Aptana jumped in to answer the questions about the AIR plugins.

@Ray: I'm not sure bud but I'll try to dupe the issue.

Michelle Petersen's Gravatar We just updated the <a href="http://aptana.com/docs/index.php/Updating_to_Aptan...; Updating to Aptana Studio 1.0</a> doc to add more details about disabling (not uninstalling) your current AIR, iPhone, and RadRails plug-ins. Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention, and apologies for any confusion this might have caused.

Thanks,
Michelle

Jörn Zaefferer's Gravatar @Ray: Try reopening your editor or restarting Aptanda to let the change take effect.

I'm really curious about the IE debugging, I haven't tried that out yet.

What bothered me about Aptanda were its degree of feature bloat. There is so much stuff in it, while a lot lack the necessary attention to details. I wonder how much that got improved recently. For example, a lot of the preference dialogs were full a stuff you'll never need, making it difficult to find the one interesting setting.

I'll give 1.0 a try and then come back cheering or complaining :-)
